The displaced people in the Kurdistan Region are highly in need of the winterization clothes and accommodation arrangements as well as other humanitarian assistance during the winter season.
The Most Priority Humanitarian needs for the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees and host communities in the Kurdistan Region.
The QUDRA programme has been a particularly impactful international intervention in response to this complex humanitarian crisis, affecting not only those displaced but also host communities that have been struggling to cope with an increasingly deteriorating situation.
The Kurdistan Region currently hosts nearly 1.5 million of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees, including 30 percent of Iraq IDPs numbering (1,176,451 persons) and 97 percent of Syrian refugees numbering (283,546 persons).
The course witnessed high participation as forty staff from the JCC HQ and its offices in the governorates participated in the workshop. The workshop is one of the joint projects run by JCC and GIZ within the framework of cooperation.
In the conference were attended the Representatives of the Government of Iraq, the United Nations, European Union institutions, EU member states, members of the European and Iraqi Parliaments and Iraqi and international civil society organizations to discuss options for Ninewa Governorate and other retaken areas in the aftermath of ISIS expulsion from Iraqi territory. The Director General explained the JCC Strategic Plan to establish a disaster and crisis management system which was endorsed by the KRG cabinet, and stated that JCC continues to need the support and cooperation of the THW, especially in the coming years to implement the strategic plan. Duhok Governorate and German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) signed a memorandum of understanding to implement several service projects in the province as part of the QUDRA program funded by the European Union and will be implemented by the GIZ. More details..
The Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), held its regular monthly Humanitarian Coordination Forum in Erbil to discuss the priorities in dealing with the humanitarian crisis in the Kurdistan Region and challenges surrounding the Mosul humanitarian consequences and the process of returnees of the IDPs and displacement. The Migration and displacement is not a new phenomenon for us, the Kurdish people, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Since the creation of Iraq in 1921 and forcefully annexing Kurdistan to Iraq, we as Kurds have faced oppression, tyranny and displacement at the hands of the successive regimes in Iraq from the monarchy to republican and until the fall of Saddam’s regime in 2003. During this period, the people of Kurdistan had faced displacement dozens of times. And until now many Kurdish diaspora in the west died and haven’t had the chance to return home. More details..
The current security developments, the level of destruction of the public and private properties and civic infrastructures in the liberated areas, as well as the lack of funding and clear strategy do not seem encouraging at all for the IDPs and refugees to go back to their homes in the near future.Therefore, there is an immediate need to focus on the resilience of the IDPs, refugees and host communities.
