During 2018, IDPs and refugees continued to flee their homes; 28,487 IDPs, mostly from Nineveh province, and 3,795 refugees from Syria sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting discussed the current efforts to strengthen disaster and crisis management institutional capacities, needs and priorities for the Kurdistan Region and the federal government including establishing volunteering system. After a detailed exchange of views on the developments and needs, all sides agreed on an action plan to be developed for potential THW’s support for the JCC and JCMC.
The JCC is the leading institution for the DRM capacity development and roll out of an effective DRM strategy and plan. This will take realistically a few years’ time.
