On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, the Director General of Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), Hoshang Mohamed, received Mr. Kazuhiko Sakamoto, Senior Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Mr. Kozo Ono, Project Formulation Advisor.
The purpose of the meeting was to present his farewell on the occasion of the end of his mission in Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and discuss future cooperation between the JCC and JICA and strengthening JCC disaster and crisis management capacity in order to be able to face the current multi-crisis in Kurdistan Region and especially in Nineveh.
Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and JCC, extended his appreciation and thanks to JICA and government of Japan for the continued support and assistance provided to the JCC to build disaster and crisis management capacity in the Kurdistan Region directly and through UNDP.
He added that the support has been critical in establishing JCC’s crisis response network and building institutional technical capacity. He also highlighted the importance of continuation and long term support to JCC to implement the strategic plan to establish Disaster and Crisis Management System in the Kurdistan Region to enable it to also deal with the post-ISIS situation as well as continues supporting the displaced people and the host communities in the Region.
Mr. Kazuhiko expressed his thanks and appreciation for the good cooperation between JICA and JCC and commended JCC for its leading role in response to the current humanitarian crisis.
He stated that they will continue providing technical and financial assistance to the affected people including displaced people and host community as well as the IDPs returned to the liberated areas. They will also continue supporting building government institutions’ capacity including JCC.
